COPYWRITER | MESSAGING STRATEGIST | BUSINESS FROM ANYWHERE COACH
Sometimes I get people saying to me: “You know, I really want to start my business. I really want to get this going, but it's not the highest priority for me right now. It's not the most important thing in my life because I've got all these issues I'm dealing with. I've got my full-time job that needs my full attention. I need to spend time with my kids. I've got so much work to do I really can't give this my attention right now.”
Oh boy. You need to flip that script on this bunch of limiting beliefs!!!
The way to do this is to ask what the opportunity cost is for them in delaying because that's what they're essentially doing.
They're delaying what will be the inevitable in the long run because they're here right now, because they know they want to do this.
They know they want to set up a business and so if:
you're in this position and you know you want to do it,
you know this is something that's going to help you further on down the line,
it's going to change your life,
it's going to give you the freedom you always dreamed of that full-time job isn't going to do for you,
then you really want to look at the opportunity cost of not taking action now.
Yes, you're busy. Yes, you've got more important things immediately on your plate.
But this is a mistake a lot of people make in time management - always looking at the short-term goals and trying to manage those because they are the more immediate concern.
Then the long-term goals get shoved to the back, so even if you've decided, “Yes, one day I want to set up my own business, this is something that I want to start maybe next year. I want to be in a position to do this”, but you keep shoving it to the bottom of your to-do list, it's never going to happen.
It's not a case of “I will do it later.”
You're actually saying subconsciously: “I'm never going to do it.”
So, you want to look at that and flip that script as soon as you can because it may not be important in terms of right now because you've got more immediate things on your plate.
But it will always take that level of priority unless you MAKE it a priority.
Part of good time management is always working on your long-term goals at the same time as you're working on your short-term ones so you don't make your long-term goals any less of a priority than you make your short-term goals.
Make sure you build into every day some kind of task that's going to move you forward to starting that business.
Saying it's not important right now is something that you're going to be saying every day, and every day is going to be the same so it's never going to be important even though you think it will be.
I promise you, if you don't start taking action and making moves towards that long-term goal now, it's never going to happen for you.
Start working towards your own business that you're going to set up.
Let's get it started. Let's make a move and get some actions laid out, some goals laid out and some steps that you're going to take every day to deal with that to make it happen.
If it's not important now, it never will be.
Flip that script!
